Here are two important differences between diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus:

The first difference is about the blood glucose level.

The diabetes insipidus syndrome is marked by normal blood sugar levels.

On the other hand, the glucose level in the bloodstream (blood sugar level) fluctuates wildly when a person suffers from diabetes mellitus.

The second difference is with regards to the organ that is affected.

The diabetes insipidus syndrome may affect the two agents that regulate the glucose level or either one of them. These are the pancreas and the kidneys.

The pancreas houses the pituitary gland that secretes the pituitary hormone for regulating the kidneys. Hence, diabetes insipidus is more dangerous than diabetes mellitus.

In the latter case, the kidneys are the only organs that are targeted.
