Diabetes insipidus is a severe and rare form of diabetes. Diabetes insipidus is an advanced form of diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

DIABETES INSIPIDUS SYMPTOMS

Diabetes insipidus refers to that typical condition when the patient suffers from the following five physical symptoms set in a random order:

* Blurred vision;

* Excessive thirst;

* Heavy urination;

* Frequent urination;

* General feeling of weakness.

HORMONE DEFICIENCY CAN LEAD TO DIABETES INSIPIDUS

Diabetes insipidus occurs when the pituitary gland fails to secrete the required amount of vasopressin – a particular hormone – which is also known as ADH or anti-diuretic hormone.

The defective the pituitary gland cannot activate the kidney. As a result, metabolism is hampered since the body cannot generate the heat needed for metabolism.

DIABETES INSIPIDUS AFFECTS METABOLISM

Our bodies produce the heat from fats. Fats constitute a major part of our bodies. The body takes fats also from the food that we consume daily.

If there is excess fat, and metabolism is slowed down, or stalled; then the excessive amount of fats gets deposed in different portions of the body like the thighs, the chin, the buttocks and the waist among others.

Metabolism is the burning process that the body regularly carries out to metamorphose the consumed food into its inherent constituents.

Among the broken down constituents are vitamins, minerals, fats, water and other elements.

The kidneys then cannot secret the hormone insulin.

A primary function of insulin is to neutralize the fats in our body by transforming them into sugar.

Glucose or sugar produces heat to carry out the metabolism.

DIABETES INSIPIDUS VERSUS DIABETES MELLITUS

Diabetes insipidus should not be confused with diabetes mellitus. Each is a variant form of the ailment called diabetes.

DIABETES INSIPIDUS VERSUS DIABETES MELLITUS: BASIC DIFFERENCES

Here are two important differences between diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus:

The first difference is about the blood glucose level.

The diabetes insipidus syndrome is marked by normal blood sugar levels.

On the other hand, the glucose level in the bloodstream (blood sugar level) fluctuates wildly when a person suffers from diabetes mellitus.

The second difference is with regards to the organ that is affected.

The diabetes insipidus syndrome may affect the two agents that regulate the glucose level or either one of them. These are the pancreas and the kidneys.

The pancreas houses the pituitary gland that secretes the pituitary hormone for regulating the kidneys. Hence, diabetes insipidus is more dangerous than diabetes mellitus.

In the latter case, the kidneys are the only organs that are targeted.
