Type 2 diabetes is an advanced form of type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is also termed as NIDDM. The acronym stands for non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Here are the factors that lead to the type 2 diabetes syndrome.

*Age a key agent : Type-2 diabetes can occur at any age!

Nonetheless, most of the type 2 diabetes patients are in 50-plus age group.

* Genetic factors : If any of the parents is a diabetic, the possibility of the progeny contracting type-2 diabetes is about 5%.

* Sedentary life : Respect your body, and the body will do the same! Stop being a couch potato.

Start exercising, keep diabetes at bay!

* Don’t be obese : Check the girth of your waist and also the fat content of your body.

Women should start the waist-reducing regimen if the girth is 35 inches.

Men fall in the danger zone if their waist girth is 40 inches.

Insofar as the body fat content is concerned it should not cross BMI 25. In simple terms, the fat content of the body must be less than 30%.

* Check Tension : Stress or tension has been identified as one of the key agents causing diabetes.

* Hypertension : The common name of hypertension is ‘high blood pressure’ or systolic pressure. It leads to type-2 diabetes.

* Lipoproteins & Serum lipids : Lipoproteins are packets of cholesterol – a waxy, soft fatty element in the blood while serum lipids refer to the fats content in the bloodstream.

* Malnutrition/ poor diet : Type 2 diabetes occurs due to wrong food habits.

Medical studies have found that patients suffering from type-2 diabetes generally consume refined oils or other foodstuffs prepared in such oils, or their diet includes fast food. They rarely have meals that are rich in fiber content. Their meals also suffer from low protein content.

* Infection : One of the agents that cause type-2 diabetes besides septicemia and pneumonia is the bacteria ’strephylococci’.

This bacteria cause infection in pancreas – the organ that produces the hormone insulin that controls sugar in the body.

*Typical sexual life : Type 2 diabetes is common among women suffering from the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or even those who have had pregnancies several times.

* Drug induced: Type 2 Diabetes can also be the result of consuming certain drugs like Geodon (ziprasidone), Seroquel (quetiapine), Risperdal (risperidone), Zyprexa (olanzapine ), and Clozaril (Clozapine) among others.
