There may be various symptoms of diabetes. Most people seem to get shocked by the presence of high sugar levels detected by routine blood or urine tests. In many cases there appears to be no symptoms other than a vague feeling of not feeling well or weakness.

This happens especially in the case of type-2 diabetes. The most common symptoms of developing diabetes are frequent urination and increased thirst. The symptoms of various types of diabetes are discussed as follows.

Frequent urination

In diabetes, frequent urination is a typical form symptom. A patient suffering from diabetes passes larger quantities of urine several times during a whole day. This happens due to excessive storage of glucose into the blood as it cannot enter into the body cells in diabetes and starts passing in the urine. In diabetes, excessive urine is caused as the glucose in the urine draws more water with it. As such, there may be a frequent need at to empty the bladder and when tested, sugar may be found in the urine.

Increased Thirst

The loss of water due to excess passing of urine leads to excessive thirst. A diabetic patient may frequently feel thirsty and drink large quantity of water at shorter intervals due to excessive loss of water from the body.

Extreme Hunger

A diabetic patient may suffer from hunger pangs and eat larger quantity of meals at shorter intervals. But despite this they feel hungry most of the time.

Loss of weight

Despite frequent intake of larger meals, a diabetic patient may suffer from weight loss. This may happen as the cells use up the proteins and fats in our body as the glucose cannot enter into the body cells and hence the body suffers from lack of energy. This leads to loss of weight which mostly happens in the type-1 diabetes.

Weakness and fatigue

People suffering from diabetes suffer from weakness and fatigue as the sugar in the blood do not get into the cells where it gets transformed into energy. As a result the patient suffers from tiredness and fatigue as lack of energy in the body lowers the stamina. A diabetic patient may also suffer from breathing problem and may look pale suffering from anaemia.

Itching

There may be an intense feeling of itching on the skin and in an around the genital organs of a diabetic patient. As such this may lead to bleeding due to scratching on the area in order to get relief.

Body pain

A diabetic patient may suffer from acute body pain especially in the feet, legs, arms and hands. They may also suffer from acute headaches. The high sugar level in the blood leads to the damage of nerves resulting to pains and aches in the body.

Depression

A diabetic patient may suffer from exhaustion and inertia. To overcome depression, proper rest, relaxation and meditation of mind is quite necessary to overcome depression. This may help in controlling and relaxing the nervous system. Along with meditation, sufficient sleep under right conditions is necessary to overcome the state of depression.

People suffering from depression usually avoid doing work. In this case, both their body and mood shows a state of depression.

Diabetes is a silent killer. Diabetes or what is medically known as diabetes mellitus happens due to the modern lifestyle. Some of the prominent causes of diabetes are lack of exercise, consumption of adulterated and unhygienic food, junk or fast food.

The most important thing about our bodies is that it is a well-oiled machine with in-built mechanism to combat all the types of attackers (read germs).

But, we ourselves are to blame if we disable the mechanism that activates the anti-germ army.

And, we ourselves are to blame if we stop the very process (metabolism) that gives birth and training to the sentinels (read enzymes, white blood corpuscles, sugar or insulin among others).

Then, what is metabolism?

DIABETES LINKED TO METABOLISM…

Metabolism breaks up the food into proteins, fats, and vitamins, and of course the waste products besides water that we eliminate as urine, sweat or stool.

Metabolism needs heat generated by the hormone insulin that is produced by the pancreas.

When pancreas fails to function diabetes strikes; metabolism fails; and the other important organs like the kidneys and the heart also fail to work properly.

The typical symptoms of diabetes are:

Frequent urination

Irritation at various portions of the body

Dry mouth

Breathlessness

And General weakness.

These symptoms can lead to loss of eyesight, pressure problems and even heart ailments.

These symptoms do not occur in a day. They remain hidden. That is primarily the reason why many diabetics fail to know of the ailment creating havoc within their bodies.

And, by the time the person seeks medical advice, diabetes already takes deep roots and many organs fail to function.

To know of the typical symptoms associated with diabetes, it is important to know what exactly diabetes is.

DIABETES DECLARED ‘EPIDEMIC’ IN AMERICA

The number of diabetics is increasing at an alarming rate across the globe. Citizens of most of the developed countries as well as the developing countries are vulnerable to this ailment commonly termed as a rich man’s disease.

The reason for this nomenclature is that diabetes is caused due to the wrong eating habits or even over-eating — habits that are identified with people having money.

In other words, people who do not eat as much rarely suffers from diabetes while they suffer from the diseases associated with malnutrition.

Annually, hundreds of Americans are falling prey to diabetics. Already, there are more than 23 million diabetics in USA alone. Moreover, this disease known clinically as ‘diabetes mellitus‘ is spreading so fast across the country that the American health department has termed it as an ‘epidemic’.
